Accountability is the whole thing.
Maintaining your sobriety means transferring yourself from that external to an internal locus of control, meaning that things that are happening to you are happening as a result of the things that you do.
It’s not so and so’s fault. It’s not your childhood. It’s not any of these things. It’s your attitude and your perception that channel how you are. Perceive things currently that dictate how you act and feel. And so, like everything we experience as a result of our attitude, our attitude dictates our actions.
It’s pretty simple. So if in your recovery, you’re blaming people for your bad day and you’re blaming the boss or the lack of a job or any, any of these things on, On any emotion you’re feeling how long before they’re the reason why you got loaded. I love extreme accountability; they call it radical acceptance in smart recovery.
And I love that concept too. This is how it is. I accept it completely. I take full ownership of it completely, which means that if it’s entirely on me, then the solution is entirely on me. And here are the steps I will take because I don’t like this. And it’s great. It’s super empowering. And without that accountability, man, it’s a hard road.
It’s not an impossible road, but it’s a harder road.
