Supporting Our Alumni: Beyond the 90 Days

What kind of aftercare or alumni programs do you offer? I think one very important aspect to stress is that our alumni, our graduates, it’s that they are able to access any of our services after they discharge. Unfortunately, we can’t say we’re a facility that’s open to the public due to the nature of confidentiality.

You can’t just walk in and sit in on any group or sit in on any therapy session or any mindfulness exercise. Um, without signing the consents and going through the entire intake process, but for anyone that’s discharged, uh, on good standing and is no longer an active client or patient in our, in our program, they can still come back and participate and engage in anything that we’re, we’re doing.

If they need to come in and talk to a counselor, if they need to come in and talk to a case manager, if they need a session with the therapist, if they want to sit in on a group, if they want to join us for a barbecue that we’re having to celebrate, you know, somebody else’s graduation or a holiday, uh, then they’re more than welcome to engage in those types of things.

And even, um, more than that. For an example, if they do have a valid driver’s license or if they do have some sort of substance use credentialing or even if just their passion is to work with other alcoholics and addicts in their early recovery, then we can even give them, you know, the opportunity to maybe help out with some transportation to help out with some group facilitation to just hang out in the lobby.

And, and help welcome and invite some of the newer clients and just talk to them, you know, cause they can identify with those individuals. Um, along with placement into a long term housing, something like a introduction to a cash based sober living, uh, introduction into, and, um, you know, going through that process with them, uh, going to meetings for the first time, and, you know, encouraging them to continue to do that after discharge, I think are just a few examples of what our alumni programs look like.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. You know, we’re still open to helping these individuals beyond their episode of care as much as possible. Um, they’re not just people that are with us for 90 days and then we don’t know who they are and we’re not invested in their success afterwards. Any way that we can grow and build upon the foundation that we already have.

If it benefits these individuals, then we’re going to do it. That’s for sure.
